All the Freedom of Contacts, None of the Hassles

Over 12 million Americans have had LASIK since it’s inception in the mid 90s.  Since that time, the technology has progressed to a point where it is now possible to correct an extremely wide range of visual errors, removing the hassles and inconvenience of lenses and restoring clear, natural vision.

LASIK solves nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism at the source.  To see clearly, light that passes through your eye needs to focus directly on the back of your retina.  You need to wear glasses to help focus this light.  LASIK corrects this problem by permanently reshaping your cornea, so the light that passes through focuses correctly, eliminating or reducing the need for glasses or contacts.

LASIK is for those who:

  1. want to reduce or eliminate their dependence on glasses or contacts.
  2. are at least 18 years of age.
  3. have had a stable eye prescription for at least one year.
  4. have no health issues affecting their eyes.
  5. have no signs of glaucoma or cataracts.

LASIK is a two-step process: "What to expect on day of surgery"

  1. The first step is to create a thin flap in the outer layer of the cornea.  This is achieved by using our advanced computer-guided method using the IntraLase laser.

  2. The excimer laser then applies the treatment to the underlying layer of the cornea.

After the procedure, the flap is then put back in place, where it heals extremely fast. Patients can return to normal activities the very next day, even driving for the first time without lenses!

Realistic expectations:

The decision to have LASIK is an important one that only you can make. The goal is to reduce or eliminate any need for glasses or contacts.  However, we cannot guarantee you will have the results you desire. We can say that the vast majority of patients see 20/20 or better, and are extremely happy with their vision after LASIK.

Serious complications with LASIK are extremely rare. LASIK is a safe, effective and permanent procedure, but like any surgical procedure, it does have some risks. Many of the risks and complications associated with this procedure can be reduced or eliminated through careful patient selection and thorough pre-operative testing using the latest diagnostic technology.

After LASIK, you may experience some visual side effects. These visual side effects are usually mild and diminish over time.

After a thorough eye exam, you and your doctor will determine if LASIK is an option for you. If you are a good candidate, you will be given additional information about the procedure that will allow you to make an informed decision about whether to proceed.

Be sure you have all your questions answered to your satisfaction.
