EYLEA® is a prescription medication used to treat Diabetic Macular Edema (DME). Patients who have high levels of the protein VEGF may develop abnormal blood vessels in the eye that can leak into the macula (the center of the retina or back layer of the eye). If the macula begins to swell with fluid, central vision is affected.
EYLEA injections block VEGF in the eye. Typically DME patients will require injections:
- 5 initial monthly injections (4 weeks)
Dr. Boozalis will assess the progression of your DME to determine the right EYLEA dosing schedule for you.
Results of Clinical Studies
According to EYLEA clinical studies, people treated with EYLEA in 2 clinical studies saw about 10-15 more letters on average on the eye chart compared to what they saw before treatment. Vision improvement was maintained through 2 years.
