Victoria Eye Center has been using Lucentis, an FDA-approved prescription medication, to treat patients with Wet Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) and Macular Edema. It is injected directly into the eye to stop abnormal blood vessel growth.
Some cases have even shown reversal of vision loss, so we are very excited about the prospects of this medication for our patients.
Certain patients are not good candidates for Lucentis, including those who have an infection in or around the eye or are allergic to any of the ingredients in the medication.
Side effects may include:
- Infections or inflammation inside the eye
- Detached retinas
- Increased eye pressure
- Increased redness in the eye
- Eye pain or sensitivity
