Victoria Eye Center is proud to offer our cataract patients options when it comes to Intraocular Lenses (IOLs). Traditional cataract surgery involves replacing the lens with a Monofocal IOL, which can provide clear vision but not correct other pre-existing conditions, such as astigmatism or presbyopia (the need for reading glasses after age 40). Patients who live active lives may choose to upgrade their cataract surgery by choosing a Lifestyle Lens so they can achieve more visual freedom from glasses, bifocals or contacts. We offer the following Lifestyle Lens options for cataract surgery:
- PanOptix® Trifocal IOL & PanOptix® Trifocal Toric IOL
- TECNIS Symfony™ Extended Range of Vision IOL
- Alcon AcrySof® IQ Vivity™ Extended Vision IOL
Watch the informational video below to learn more about choosing the right lens.
PanOptix® Trifocal IOL & PanOptix® Trifocal Toric IOL
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the first and only trifocal lens in the U.S. We are proud to offer the Alcon AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® IOL as a replacement lens option for cataract surgery patients. The toric version of this lens is also FDA-approved for cataract surgery patients who also have pre-existing astigmatism.
PanOptix is clinically shown to deliver an exceptional combination of near, intermediate and distance vision while significantly reducing the need for glasses after surgery. Most patients who choose this lens are able to read text messages on their smart phones, work on a computer and even drive without the need for glasses. This is due, in part, to ENLIGHTEN® Optical Technology, a proprietary design that optimizes intermediate vision without compromising near and distance vision.
TECNIS Symfony™ Extended Range of Vision IOL
The Symfony lens is the first and only extended range of vision lens that is FDA approved for cataract patients. The Symfony lens can actually address the problem of presbyopia (the need for reading glasses) while also correcting your cataract. The Symfony lens provides continuous, high-quality vision resulting in:
- Improved up close reading vision
- Clear distance vision
- Seamless nighttime to daytime vision
- Low risk of glare and halos around lights
Alcon AcrySof® IQ Vivity™ Extended Vision IOL
If you need reading glasses to see up close, this lens may be a good option for you. Vivity is the first and only non-diffractive extended depth of focus IOL that incorporates X-WAVE™ technology to stretch and shift light entering your eyes so you can obtain a continuous, extended range of vision. With the Vivity lens, you may not need glasses (even readers) to see clearly at all distances after cataract surgery.
Lifestyle Lenses are considered “premium,” which means there will be additional costs associated with these lenses. However, the benefits of being able to see without glasses after cataract surgery make this a very attractive option for many of our cataract patients. During a cataract evaluation at our office, our cataract surgery doctors will assess your eye health and determine if a Lifestyle Lens would be a good option for your vision. Schedule your appointment today to learn more about your IOL options.
