Sheryl Hicks

Billing Specialist

As a billing specialist at Victoria Eye Center, Sheryl is responsible for:

  • Posting charges and payments
  • Answering incoming calls from patients
  • Working with insurance companies

Sheryl’s daily tasks ensure prompt payment and promote efficiency between the patient, insurance companies and the eye center. She has been with the company for 7 years.

“I love my job because of my co-workers,” says Sheryl. “I love being a team player and helping co-workers get the answers they need to complete their job duties.”

Sheryl believes that it is important to see an eye doctor regularly. “This ensures there isn’t any cataract, glaucoma or any other disease in your eyes. You also need to see a doctor regularly to make sure you can see well with or without glasses or contacts.”

With children returning back to school and numerous fall sports beginning, it is important for parents to equip their children with all the necessary safety measures…including protective eyewear. September is recognized as Sports Eye Safety Month.

Sheryl says, “With the number of kids playing sports, parents should take special measures to protect their children’s eyes due to the extreme physical contact of sports. Just think about it: sports eye safety glasses could prevent kids from being poked in the eye during basketball or soccer season.”

Sheryl is a 1990 graduate of Stroman High School. Upon graduation, she moved to Houston to attend Texas Southern University and became a member of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. In 2008, she moved back to Victoria and married her husband. They are celebrating their 8 year anniversary in November. Together they have a 6 year old son.

When away from the Victoria Eye Center, Sheryl enjoys spending free time with her family. “I like to watch movies with my husband, play with my son, play Candy Crush, be on Facebook, spend time with family and friends and sing in the choir at my church, Bethlehem Baptist Church.” Her dream is to “see my son grown up to be an intelligent and successful person.”
