What is Refractive Surgery?

refractive_surgery.jpgRefractive surgery is any eye surgery used to improve the refractive state of the eye and decrease or eliminate dependency on glasses or contact lenses. This can include various methods of surgical remodeling of the cornea or cataract surgery.

The most common methods of refractive surgery today use excimer lasers to reshape the curvature of the cornea.  If you have nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism or presbyopia, refractive surgery is a way to improve your vision. The most common form of refractive surgery is LASIK.

After a thorough examination by a doctor at Victoria Eye Center in Victoria, the best option for vision correction will be discussed, which may include refractive surgery.  Please contact our office for an appointment.
