Shawn Kavoussi, M.D.
Dr. Kavoussi, M.D., is a board certified, fellowship-trained retina specialist who provides treatment for retinal diseases, retinal detachment, macular degeneration, diabetic eye care and more.
Dr. Kavoussi completed his ophthalmology residency at the prestigious Yale University School of Medicine and Yale-New Haven Hospital System. During his residency, he earned the Resident Research Award for his work on the genetics of age-related macular degeneration. Following residency, Dr. Kavoussi returned to Houston where he completed a two-year vitreo-retinal surgery fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine.
In addition to being highly skilled in the most advanced retina surgical techniques, Dr. Kavoussi has served as an investigator in industry-sponsored clinical trials and has published extensively in the peer-reviewed ophthalmic literature. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Specialists, the Houston Ophthalmological Society, and the Harris County Medical Society. He has presented his research at meetings both at the state and national levels. He currently serves on the Board of Scientific Advisory Trustees for the Retina Research Foundation, as well as the annual grants review committee responsible for allocating donated funds to scientists and researchers across the globe investigating the next generation of treatments for blinding retinal diseases.
